The Schoenlein-Mott House in Franklin Square was one of the area's first houses designed specifically as a suburban residence rather than a farmhouse. Built-in 1905, the house - Franklin Square's finest example of Edwardian architecture - was built by Oscar Mott and his family at Madison Avenue and Roosevelt Street.

At the time of its construction, the Schoenlein-Mott House was surrounded by cornfields. The Motts went on to build many of the original houses in the Monroe Street-Madison Avenue area.
