The Chapel reflects a fascinating part of Merrick's history. This Camp Grounds cottage was built circa the 1870s, during the colorful Camp Grounds religious communal era which stretched from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Located in one of the circular avenues of the Methodist Episcopal campground, it is one of the few original campground buildings remaining in nearly original condition.

Sponsored by the Long Island Methodist Camp Meeting Association, the area provided city residents with an opportunity to gather together for religious communal living and worship during the summer months.
