The marshlands of Long Island’s south shore are dotted with a historic collection of unique bay houses that generations of baymen have used as base camps for clamming, fishing and hunting. These “shacks” are living artifacts, enduring reminders of the region’s maritime history. In this presentation, Nancy Solomon will discuss their history and future. Copies of Ms. Solomon’s book “A World Within a World: Bay Houses of Long Island ” will be available for purchase.
