Beach Cleanups

The Town of Hempstead has partnered with Atlantic Marine Conservation Society and All Our Energy to conduct regular beach cleanups at Point Lookout Town Park, Lido Beach Town Park, and Lido West Town Park. In 2021 alone, the Town hosted 7 beach cleanups with a total of 513 volunteers attending and collected 1,848 pounds of trash.

Volunteers are given buckets and pickers to collect trash, and are asked to complete a data sheet checking off what types of trash they have found on the beach. This information is shared with NOAA fisheries who also has a marine debris app you can download. Collecting marine debris and trash on the beach creates a safer environment for birds and marine mammals, helping to prevent entanglements and ingestion of marine debris.
