Who Needs A Passport
All persons, including newborn infants, must obtain passports in their own names for travel to all foreign countries.
In an effort to strengthen border security, the United States Department of Homeland Security and State implemented the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) for Air Travel on January 23, 2007. Currently, all U.S. citizens, including children, are required to present a valid passport or other approved travel document when departing from or entering the United States from within the Western Hemisphere at airports of entry. U.S. citizens can present a valid passport, Nexus card at airports with Nexus kiosks, U.S. military ID witeh travel orders, or a U.S. Merchant Mariner Document when on official business.
As of June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry are required to have documents that comply with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), most commonly a valid U.S. passport, a passport card, a trusted traveler card such as Nexus, Sentri, or Fast, or an enhanced driver's license.
The passport requirement does not apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory.
Visit the Department of Homeland Security website to obtain further details on border crossing requirements.
We Have the Applications
Applicants are encouraged to download the required applications from the Travel.State.Gov website in advance of their appointment. Our office can provide applicants with appropriate application forms as well.
We Take The Picture
For your convenience, we can take your required passport photo (one, 2-inch by 2-inch color photograph taken within the past six months, showing your current appearance, full face, and front view with a plain white or off-white background). A fee of $10 per person applies.
Your New Passport Is Mailed To You!
Your completed application will be processed and forwarded to the U.S. Passport Services on the same day that you apply. Passport processing times have increased due to high volume. The Federal Government has informed us that you can expect your passport to arrive within eighteen to twenty weeks via priority mail. Expedited service (twelve-week wait currently) is available from the U.S. Department of State for an additional fee. Passport Cards are sent via First Class mail. The status of your passport application should be available online six weeks after you apply for your passport. You can check the status of your application at the Travel State website.
