Taxicab Owner

The issuance of medallions is to regulate passenger-carrying vehicles and to protect the public from unlicensed and uninsured operators. All first-time owners must be fingerprinted and checked for previous criminal records. The licensing period is for one year from October 1st through September 30th. First-time cab owners are charged a filing fee of $ 50 once approved by the Town of Hempstead Building Department, there is an initial fee of $500 per vehicle. Town of Hempstead license inspectors and the Nassau County Police Department enforce these regulations. Violations call for the issuance of an appearance ticket returnable in the Second District Court.

The renewal fee will be $ 100 per vehicle.

Application Process

The completed application must be signed and notarized and submitted with vehicle registrations, proof of worker's compensation and disability coverage, certificate of insurance, naming the Town of Hempstead as a certificate holder, corporate disclosure statements, and rate sheets and/or zone maps.

All vehicles must have a Town of Hempstead-issued vehicle identification card on display at all times.

Fees
