Peddling & Soliciting Permit

All applicants must be fingerprinted for a criminal background check. There is a $55 town fee. The licensing of peddlers and peddler vehicles offers the public a measure of protection from unlicensed and unscrupulous vendors. Peddlers must supply the Town of Hempstead with a New York State Sales Tax Certificate as well as proof of Worker's Compensation Insurance.

If a home or business has a No Soliciting or Do Not Knock sign on their property, peddling is prohibited.

The Nassau County Police Department enforces the licensing rules.

Peddler Vehicles

All peddler vehicles must be licensed. A copy of a Nassau County Board of Health Certificate and vehicle registration must be provided. The fee for the vehicle license ranges between $25 and $100, depending upon the weight of the vehicle.
