The issuance of Limousine and Taxi Driver Licenses is to regulate passenger-carrying vehicles and to protect the public from unlicensed and uninsured operators. All first-time applicants must be fingerprinted; the Town of Hempstead will advise you of the location and fee for fingerprinting. You must hold at least a Class E NYS Driver's License. The licensing period is for one year, from October 1st through September 30th. Taxi drivers are charged a fee of $20. Town of Hempstead License Inspectors and the Nassau County Police Department enforce these regulations. Violations call for the issuance of an appearance ticket returnable in the Second District Court.
The completed application must be signed and notarized.
All vehicles must have a Town of Hempstead issued Limousine or Taxi Driver Driver's License on display at all times.
