Adventure Tours

Tour cultural, historical and recreational attractions! Share special sites and memorable moments with friends and fellow “adventurers.” Tours leave from the Merrick Road Park Golf Course in Merrick, located one traffic light east of the Meadowbrook Parkway. Registration: MAIL IN ONLY. First-come, first-served. Buses are filled in the order we receive payments. Sorry, we cannot reserve bus seats. Enclose a separate check or money order for each trip, PAYABLE TO THE TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD and send along with self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Department of Parks and Recreation, 200 North Franklin Street, Hempstead, NY 11550, Attn: Adventure Tours. Please include phone number, address and name of each guest. No more than two reservations per request. Tours are held rain or shine, and listed return times are approximate. Please wear comfortable shoes on all trips, there will be a lot of walking. Bring a camera to capture those incredible sights. Trips open to TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD residents only!  NO REFUNDS!

Join us with our LI tour guide as we head into The Bronx and visit “THE HOUSE THAT RUTH BUILT”.  Our guided walking tour takes us to many highlighted areas at the stadium. Including Monument Parkwhere the Bronx Bomber’s greatest legends are enshrined. Discover the Yankees heroes, milestones and winning tradition inside the New York Yankees Museum.

 After the guided tour, enjoy a leisurely lunch own your own at the famous HARD ROCK CAFE.

Then it’s off to a unique ART MUSEUM of the Bronx located in the historic Concourse.  Wander through rooms filled with art from international countries.  This museum was once described as a “white box with raw concrete floors”. See if you agree, as you stroll through this special building.  Fee:  $74 per person.

Join our LI Tour Guide, as we board the motor coach and head north to discover little hidden treasures in Oyster Bay.  Our  first stop, "Old Orchard," the home of Theodore Roosevelt’s son, built in 1937. Take time to wander through the home and enjoy the interior architecture and much more of the Roosevelt family.  Then it’s back on board as we travel a short distance to our next discovery.   

"Meet Washington's Master Spy” - LIVE - in the historic home in which he lived. Enjoy a tour and learn about the plot that saved LI and our country during the American Revolution.

Enjoy lunch on your own as you stroll on Main Street in Oyster Bay Village. Back on the coach as we head to discover COE HALL PLANTING FIELDS AND GARDENS. The original estate was purchased in 1913, by one of the Gilded Age’s Tycoons, William Robertson Coe, investor in railroads, insurance and breeder of thoroughbred racehorses. 

Long Island is filled with beauty.  As we head to back to Merrick let’s remember that  “There is no place like home” - L. Frank Baum.                 Fee:  $73 per person.   


Hampton Classic

Join our LI tour guide, as we head out to Bridgehampton and enjoy one of the most famous events on Long Island, "The Hampton Classic” and see the Olympic jumper and rider winners from the International livery stables.

All events are staged every year, on a transformed outdoor field in beautiful Bridgehampton.  Multiple horse jumping rings are spaced around the acres, with outdoor bleachers.  Each event is timed with judges announcing on loudspeaker, for all to hear. 

All seating is open, (bring sun/rain apparel). There are many food vendors scattered around the walkways for you to enjoy.  Don’t miss the incredible vendors as you stroll the "Boutique Gardens".

On the way home, we will stop at a local LI farm and if time permits, we will take a drive into Southampton village, and enjoy a bus eye view of beautiful homes along the water. This is sure to be a full day of fun!  Fee: $69 per person.
