Child Car Seat Safety Program

Overview

Nothing is more important than the safety of our children. With this in mind, the Town of Hempstead has established a free Child Car Seat Safety Check Program.

Under New York State's Child Restraint Law, a child must remain in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle until the age of eight. An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child's size and weight recommended by the manufacturer. A child restraint system may be a child safety seat, harness, vest, or booster seat.

Hempstead Town's certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will inspect vehicles to be sure that car and booster seats are properly positioned and correctly installed. Technicians will also instruct guardians on their proper installation, recommend appropriate car seats, and check for notices of recalls or possible defects for the current model being used.
